God Sends Us an Angel
By "Melon Seed," Taoyuan, Formosa (Originally in Chinese)
On my recent trip to Bangladesh to distribute
"Alternative Living" pamphlets with a group of Formosan
initiates, my fellow work team members and I were assisted by Mr.
Bian, a devout Christian and owner of a local building materials
company. Besides meeting us at the airport and getting us settled
in a hotel in a safe district containing foreign embassies, Mr.
Bian also found time to help us handle other matters, including
printing several thousand copies of the pamphlet in Bengali, renting
cars, making airline reservations for local travel and buying prepaid
local cell phone cards. He also asked his company's personnel
manager to take care of us, and understanding the inconvenience
of finding vegetarian food in Bangladesh, considerately allowed
the initiates to use his home kitchen and rest on the second floor
of his house. We were both amazed and touched while experiencing
his arrangements as our uneasiness in the country vanished without
a trace, and we were certain that this saintly person was an angel
sent by God.
Moreover, all the initiates were delighted
with their spacious, elegantly decorated hotel rooms, where we were
greeted by a bouquet of fresh-cut flowers and a fruit basket on
each of our dressing tables that Mr. Bian had especially requested
for us.
On the third day of our trip, Mr. Bian personally
prepared lunch and dinner for us, and surprisingly, his first attempt
at vegetarian cooking produced delicious, aromatic and tempting
dishes. Then, while leading us in a prayer before dinner, he said,
"May God bless these people with a safe, successful journey
in Bangladesh, and enable me to do my best to help them accomplish
their task of serving the multitude." We were touched by his
words, and some of the initiates even had tears in their eyes. Mr.
Bian's generous spirit of sacrifice and service is worthy of emulation
by everyone.
