The One and Only Method for Spiritual Growth
- Doing God's Work and Joining Group Meditation
By brother-initiate Gerald, Taipei, Formosa (Originally in Chinese)
Twelve years has passed since I was initiated
at the age of thirteen. Advancing on the spiritual path, the most beneficial
habit that I have developed is going to the group meditation sessions
at the local Center and Hsihu Center.
Since childhood, I always remembered Master's
words: "Even you have to put down a hundred worldly work, go to
the group meditation." Therefore, I definitely would go to group
meditation every week. When studying in university, going to the Center
to meditate had become second nature to me. When I had no class to attend,
I would always jump on my motorbike and go to the Center for meditation.
Because of this, I have had many opportunities to do God's work. Sometimes
I joined fellow initiates of my own age planning and preparing activities;
sometimes I joined the elder initiates doing some heavy work. Both kinds
of work let me feel very fulfilled, satisfied, and happy. The sacrificing
spirit of fellow initiates in serving the multitude had always been
models for me to emulate. Therefore, I have learnt very fast and grown
a lot from doing God's work.
Before my term of military service, I prayed
that God would bless me so that I could keep a pure vegetarian diet
and go to the group meditation during this time. Thanks to God's grace,
my wishes were all realized. During my years of service, I was able
to join group meditation at the local Center and Hsihu Center almost
every week. Indeed sincere prayers are always answered!
Before the initiation, I was crazy about computer
games and often went out to play with classmates. However, ever since
I was initiated in the second year of secondary school, I had quit my
addiction to computer games, which bewildered my classmates. I am sure
this is the power of the Quan Yin Method!
I started writing the spiritual diary after the
initiation. No matter how busy I was, I would always squeeze in some
time to write the diary so as to review my past, practice subtle introspection,
remind myself to always keep my intentions and thoughts pure, and also
train myself to observe subtly, which is very helpful in daily life
and in work! For example, when working in the Center, it is inevitable
to have different ideas from other initiates. Sometimes, we would each
stand firm by our opinion and have a hot debate. When writing the spiritual
diary, I would then introspect on the incident and remind myself to
stay calm and respect others in such a situation. Through doing God's
work and writing the spiritual diary, I can truly appreciate Master's
words reminding us that sincerity and love is the best way to get along
with people.
