The latest development in the unfolding
story of nuclear fusion comes from Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in the
United Kingdom. Working with partners from 14 countries, the laboratory
has submitted to the European Union a proposed project called Hiper. Hiper
will use lasers to make nuclear fusion a viable reality. Nuclear fusion
is generated when two different forms of hydrogen are combined under high
pressure and high temperature, resulting in clean and practically unlimited
