Sudan
Lighting Candles in the Darkness
By Kenya News Group (Originally in English)
Since July 2007, flooding from heavy rainfall has affected the White Nile State, Sudan, especially the Kosti area. About one thousand houses were destroyed, and six to seven thousand people displaced. Upon arrival at Kosti in early September, our fellow initiate met Mr. Fekri Aradeeb Batal, the chairman of the Humanitarian Aid Commission and Mr. Mohamed, head of the sub office of the United Nations World Food Program. Because the UN had already supplied food and enough clean water for three months, Mr. Mohamed suggested that their most urgent need was shelter.
With Master’s contribution of US$30,000, one hundred and eighty tents were purchased. The tents were very expensive in the local market, but the provider was touched by our service ethic and reduced the price. We then packed them with Alternative Living flyers and sample booklets, and offered them to the Humanitarian Aid Commission to distribute. The Supreme Master Television announcement was placed in the local newspaper for four days. Wherever the fellow initiates went, they handed out flyers and sample booklets, and talked with the local people about Master’s teachings. Everyone responded with great enthusiasm. This impossible journey was made possible because of Master’s love. Although the material assistance was limited, what happened there seemed like candles were being lit in the darkness and from that came the realization that a land long neglected by humankind is never forgotten by God. Now with so many candles illuminated, this land will be different. Once again, fellow initiates would like to express their deepest gratitude for having this opportunity to serve.
