Sharing the Vegan Solution at the World Mayors Summit on Climate 2010
By Mexico News Group (Originally in Spanish)
[Mexico City] On November 21, Golden Year 7 (2010), days before the beginning of COP16, 138 representatives from 43 countries around the world took part in the World Mayors Summit on Climate (WMSC) held in Mexico, to work together to mitigate climate change. Supreme Master Ching Hai was invited as a special guest to this important event. Although She could not be there in person, Master lovingly sent representatives to attend and support the conference. As delegates, many of our Association members from different countries also came to the meeting to share the noble, organic vegan solution to climate change. At the welcoming dinner the day before the summit, our Association members had the opportunity to meet with VIPs including Mr. Carlos Slim Helú, the renowned business magnate and philanthropist, and Mr. Jaime Hernández Zaragoza, the Honorable Mayor of Cancún, and shared with them the most efficient way to halt global warming. Touched by the inspiring “Be Veg, Go Green 2 Save the Planet” message, Ms. Martha Delgado, Secretary of the Environment for Mexico City, offered to help distribute vegan recipe booklets and spread the good news. The Mayor of Mexico City, Mr. Marcelo Ebrard, was presented with Master’s new book From Crisis to Peace: The Organic Vegan Way is the Answer. On the day of the Summit, with God’s arrangement, our Association members were able to distribute SOS bags officially at the main entrance to all the participants, many of whom expressed agreement with the promoted ideal. Four mayors mentioned they would become vegan starting the next day for the sustainability of the planet, and others said they would bring this message back to their cities and share it with citizens. In supporting the low carbon, plant-based diet, the organizer of the event wisely served a vegetarian lunch to all the guests. The Summit was concluded with the signing of the Global Cities Covenant on Climate, the “Mexico City Pact,” highlighting the strategic importance of cities in combating global warming. We wish that all communities will go vegan in the near future under the enlightening leadership of the mayors.
