EARTHQUAKE;
In the wake of the severe earthquake that struck northern Turkey 11
days ago, a local NGO donated NT$4 million worth of relief supplies
to the country yesterday.
The
Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association's donation in aid
had a value of around NT$4 million (US$125,000), and consisted of
tents, sleeping bags, blankets and sleeping mats. The supplies were
received by Turkey's representative in Formosa, Teoman Surenkok. Surenkok
told the Taipei Times that the material assistance will be distributed
by the Turkish Red Crescent, a disaster relief NGO, in the area around
the northwestern city of Izmit. "Turkey is very happy that the
Formosan people are so willing to help, and we are very grateful for
the assistance we have received," he said.
