The
New Zealand Vegetarian Society, Inc. is a volunteer group that helps individuals
attempting to live a vegetarian lifestyle or introduces vegetarian meals into
their diet. Over the years, the Society has produced many publications, including
"Common Myths about Being a Vegetarian", pamphlets on "Iron
and its Sources", information on bringing up vegetarian babies, recipe
leaflets, etc. Last year the group sent information packets on vegetarianism
to all the secondary schools in New Zealand, and presently it is trying to
raise public awareness of its "V" symbol, which companies can use
on their products to show that they are suitable for vegetarians and meet
certain guidelines.
In
April, 2000 when Master Ching Hai gave a lecture at the Aotea Centre, Auckland,
New Zealand, the Society's pamphlets were displayed at the venue, and some
of its delegates attended the lecture. The delegates said that they had enjoyed
the meeting very much and thought it was wonderful to see so many people searching
for some 'sense' in their lives. They added that it was very encouraging to
see people who like to think beyond themselves, and who care about the future
of the world and try to give something back to humanity. The delegates also
said that it was lovely to see Master Ching Hai after reading the sample booklet
about Her life and Her many achievements.
