After
several months of effort, Tainan's Animal Quarantine Department has
successfully developed a vegetarian recipe for animal feed, which
is now undergoing production and is in the testing stage.
At
Tainan's vegetarian dog food presentation seminar on April 16, 2003,
Mayor Hsu Tain-tsair expressed his delight at this innovative product
and hoped that it could be distributed throughout Formosa, so that
dogs could eat healthier food and enjoy a longer life. He also wished
that this development could translate into greater hope and care for
all forms of life.
According
to the Animal Quarantine Department, many vegetarians have been deterred
from keeping a dog because their pets cannot enjoy vegetarian food
as they do. If the dogs could eat vegetarian food as their masters
do, then both humans and dogs could experience the purity and serenity
of their souls. Meanwhile, the Quarantine Department is appraising
and testing the vegetarian feed to determine whether it suits the
palate and nutritional needs of stray dogs. The study will soon be
extended to determine its influence and impact on domesticated dogs
as well.
