The Building Materials Reuse Association, the American Institute of Architects and West Coast Green have initiated an exciting new project whose objective is to dramatically reduce the levels of renovation and demolition debris. This waste normally accounts for 91% of the entire disposal in US landfills. The secret is to develop cost-effective disassembly techniques and design materials and components, which can be recovered and reused easily. The potential environmental benefits of building smart are astounding, including a reduction in waste and energy costs. As environmental concerns are transforming traditional thinking, eco-friendly efficiency is our next step into the future. Thanks go out to all those involved in making this a reality.
