Some time ago, I was
unhappy with a senior colleague and always lost my “spiritual
merits” by sending him my anger, even to the extent
of wanting to throw stationery at him. When I got home from
work that evening, I saw that my son had a bruised eye.
My heart ached and I asked him, “What happened?”
“I lost my wallet and a classmate found it.”
my son replied, “He threw it back to me but with so
much force that I couldn’t catch it. The wallet hit
me and gave me a black eye.”
The incident brought to
mind that even a little negative thought about someone we
dislike hurts our beloved God. It is God’s will that
each of us plays a different role. No one is in the right
or in the wrong. People who are destined to go Home will
go; people who should continue playing their roles in this
drama of life will continue to do so. They are all beloved
children of God. Therefore, our love should not be limited
to those we love, but should embrace all sentient beings,
for hurting the enemy is hurting our loved ones.
I had given in to a moment
of negative thinking towards others and immediately my son
suffered for it. Yet he forgave the involved party without
bearing a grudge, and said that the bruise would be gone
in a few days. Now his eye looks like that of a panda’s.
I beg Master, and my son, to forgive me. I promise I will
improve next time. Thank you, son! Thank You, Master!
