Dog Saves Caretaker from Fire

Five years ago, Associate Professor Hsu Wen-lung of Chung Hwa University in Hsinchu, and his wife, Wang Jie, adopted a stray dog. The little dog did not look too smart, so they named him Little Dummy. Surprisingly, Little Dummy turned out to be not so dumb after all. Instead, he is highly intelligent and even averted a serious fire just in time to save the life of his human caretaker.

One evening, two years ago, Wang Jie was heating water on the stove. Feeling exhausted, she lie down for a moment and fell asleep. The water dried up and a fire broke out. Little Dummy sensed the fire and immediately scratched his caretaker with his paws trying to wake her up, but she remained fast asleep. Finally, he jumped onto the bed and pushed her down to the floor, and then kept scratching the bedroom door. Upon opening the door, Wang Jie found that the living room was filled with heavy smoke, so she quickly put out the fire. If there had been any further delay, even just a few seconds, the consequences would have been grave. To show their gratitude to Little Dummy for saving Mrs. Hsu’s life, the couple adopted two more stray dogs. They appeal to the public to respect all life forms and not to abandon their dogs; for once we are committed, we should take care of those animals for life.

From Dog-fighting to Caretaking

Mr. Han Hong-dao, who operated an illegal dog-fighting ring, had an awakening when a dog saved his life. He repented his actions and decided to help stray dogs by starting a pet restaurant and an animal rescue center.

One night in March this year, Mr. Han had an accident when his car skidded off the road and fell four meters down a slope. When he and his friend crawled out of the car, they found themselves completely lost in the wilderness. They panicked. At that moment, they saw a dog. Instead of barking at them, it came near as if signaling them to follow. So they followed the dog for about half an hour and eventually found a house where they got help.

Incidentally this was a stray dog that had just been adopted from an animal shelter by the Agouworld Animal Care Society. According to Mr. Chen Chang-an of the Society, “Egg Yolk” did not return to Agouworld the evening of Mr. Han’s accident. When he and his volunteer workers went out to search for him, they found Mr. Han and his friend.

To express his gratitude to Egg Yolk for saving his life, Mr. Han Hong-dao decided to contribute three houses to Agouworld that would be converted into an animal hospital. He is also preparing to open a pet restaurant and an animal rescue center in Taipei. Mr. Han said, “The dogs are now my best friends.” He vowed to give stray dogs better and happier lives.
