Snow disaster in Diqing

A heavy snowstorm started on October 26, 2008 and lasted several days in parts of Tibet and Yunling Township in the Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province. When the snow melted, severe floods occurred, destroying the farmland.

On November 1, fellow initiates reached Deqin County of Diqing. After assessing the situation, we immediately purchased cooking oil, rice and flour for the people. However, our delivery was delayed because the roads were damaged by landslides. While waiting in Deqin, we distributed the “Be Veg to Save the Earth” flyers and advised people to abandon animal farming and develop organic farming. When the roads were repaired on November 4, we risked falling rocks and delivered over 5 tons of relief materials to the affected area. The people were very grateful to Master for giving them timely help when they were most in need.

Mudslides in Chuxiong

From late October to early November, Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province was hit by severe mudslides triggered by torrential rain, causing heavy loss of lives and property.

On November 3, fellow initiates managed to contact the Civil Administration Bureau of Shuangbo County and were informed that people were in urgent need of warm clothes, quilts and nylon canvas sheets to fight the cold weather. We purchased 100 quilts and 12 bundles of nylon canvas sheets in Kunming, and distributed them in Shuangbo on November 5. The following day, we found out that the situation was worse than we had expected. A Disaster Relief Command Post had been set up in Chuxiong to conduct the relief operation. Helicopters airlifted relief supplies to the affected areas. On November 7, we purchased some army quilts, police jackets and army coats, and delivered them to the Command Post. Then, on November 8 and 10, we purchased cotton coats and warm clothing for children, and delivered them to the Civil Administration Bureaus of Shuangbo and Chuxiong Counties. The officials were very grateful for our loving actions.

During the relief operation, we distributed more than 10,000 copies of SOS flyers. We personally handed 60 copies of Global Warming pamphlets to leading officials in different places, hoping that they would quickly realize the critical situation of global warming and lead their citizens to Be Veg, Go Green and Save the Planet!

Flood disaster in Kunming

A heavy rain started in Kunming at midnight on November 1 with torrential downpours in some regions, causing floods of different intensities in different parts of the city.
On November 6, fellow initiates arrived in Dongchuan District and
made local purchases of relief materials including cotton quilts,
rapeseed oil, noodles and salt, to be distributed in the affected
area the next day. We learnt that there were more people in need of
help in Jinyuan Township and Diansha Township of Xundian County, so
we purchased cotton quilts, cotton coats and army sneakers in Kunming.
These, together with children’s clothes contributed by fellow
initiates, were delivered to Jinyuan and Diansha on November 10 and
            distributed to the people.
