Help for Mudslide Victims in Sichuan
By a fellow initiate in China (Originally in Chinese)
From
September 22 to 27, 2008, the Sichuan Basin was struck by torrential
rain and thunderstorms. Severe landslides and mudslides occurred,
causing great damage to Beichuan County, which had recently been devastated
by a strong earthquake. About 12,000 inhabitants in Leigu Township
and over 20 villages in the vicinity were affected. Supreme Master
Ching Hai was very concerned about the people and instructed the Association
relief team to launch an immediate relief effort. For this purpose,
Master compassionately contributed US$10,000.
After
assessing the situation and the urgent needs of the people, our relief
team quickly purchased the required daily necessities, food and other
materials, and collected clothes contributed by fellow initiates.
Early on September 29, with three trucks loaded with Master’s
love and relief supplies, our relief team traveled over 200 km to
Beichuan. There, 300 heavily affected rural households received about
RMB30,000 (US$4,385) of relief materials that included clothes, daily
necessities, food and tents. We also distributed informative materials
on saving the planet with a vegetarian diet. Realizing that the mudslides
had caused serious damage in Beichuan, the following day, we prepared
another RMB30,000 of relief supplies and traveled through the night
to deliver them to Leigu. Many people were moved to tears and repeatedly
expressed their deep gratitude for the assistance.
The frequent natural disasters are warnings from Mother
Nature to humankind. We hope that the whole world will wake up in
time to quickly adopt the vegetarian lifestyle so that Eden will soon
reappear on Earth.
