Helping Flood Victims in Sri Lanka

In late October, 2008, a persistent torrential rainfall caused great distress to about 90,000 people in five western provinces of Sri Lanka. Upon knowing the news, Supreme Master Ching Hai immediately contributed a US$10,000 relief fund while our Association members rushed to this South Asian island country to provide humanitarian assistance and purchase emergency provisions for the people.

Our relief team reached Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, on October 30. The following day, we traveled to Puttalam and met with local leaders to learn more about the situation and the needs of the people. On November 2, our team members and the local fellow initiates rented three vehicles and went to the five villages in the area that were most in need. There we distributed food, mosquito nets and other emergency supplies, together with the SOS flyers, thus conveying the loving concern and blessing from Master to the people, and sharing the message of "Be Veg, Go Green, Save the Planet." The local inhabitants responded warmly and positively.
