Aid for Our Philippino Compatriots
By Formosa Relief Team (Originally in Chinese)
In late October,
2008, Nanungan Town of Lanao del Norte Province in southern Philippines was hit by severe floods. Many houses were destroyed and many people lost their lives or were missing. On hearing the news, Supreme Master Ching Hai immediately contributed US$10,000 for flood relief.
A team of Association members arrived from Formosa and purchased rice, noodles and daily necessities for the people. As the disaster had occurred in a remote area, few people knew about the situation. However, with Master’s blessing and local assistance, the relief team contacted Ms. Corazon Villondo, an officer with Nanungan’s Municipal Social Welfare & Development Department, and delivered the materials charged with Master’s love to her for distribution.
While trying to contact Ms. Villondo, the Association members
were staying in a province where sporadic skirmishes often occurred
between local anti-government groups and the Philippine government.
Guided by Master’s love and with local government assistance,
the surplus relief provisions were distributed to people affected
by the conflict. Dr. Bertrand M. Lumaque, Mayor of Kolambungan City,
mobilized citizens to help pack the materials and provided two trucks
to transport the provisions to the shelters.
Association members are very grateful to Master for Her incredible
arrangement, as they were able to smoothly distribute the relief supplies
to those Philippine people in difficulty.
