This year, thousands of people throughout Mexico attended celebrations
of the spring equinox, observed at sunrise on
March 21. The festivities took place in many Mexican cities, such
as Teotihuacan in the state of Mexico, Chichen Itza in Yucatan, and
Cuicuilco (a famous archeological site in Mexico City), Palenque in
Chiapas, Tulum in Quintana Roo, Tula in Hidalgo, and Tajin in Veracruz.
Mexican
fellow initiates met for this event in Teotihuacan, located approximately
50 kilometers from Mexico City. Teotihuacan means "God's City"
or "Place where a person becomes God." It is the most important
archaeological area in the Mexican plateau, containing the Pyramid
of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon.
The
spring equinox celebration goes far back in Mexican history and was
originally performed by pre-Hispanic people, who climbed up to the
Pyramid of the Sun and the Moon. There, they would conduct two ceremonies
or rituals: one for the moon and one for the sun. The sun ceremony
was considered more important and was called "Greeting the Sun."
According to the customs of our ancestors, this ceremony, which takes
place at the exact moment of sunrise, allows the body to be filled
with divine energy, like a new birth.
As
part of this year's equinox celebration, the Mexico Center prepared
a stand containing vegetarian food, along with a book and magazine
exhibit featuring the teachings of Supreme Master Ching Hai. Practitioners
gave away thousands of flyers, as people stopped by the stand on their
way to the pyramids. Many visitors were surprised and pleased to find
that we could provide such high quality vegetarian food. More importantly,
they were able to discover teachings about the Quan Yin Method.
Thousands
of the visitors who came to our stand learned about Master for the
first time, and were astonished by Her youth, beauty and wisdom. Many
said that they would come to visit our Meditation Center, and some
requested information about the Quan Yin Method. By the end of the
event, all the disciples who participated were exhausted, but at the
same time very happy and satisfied to have shared the teachings of
salvation from a true living Master.
