Sunshine
in the Heart
[U.S.A.]
On
Sunday, March 18, 2001, Florida initiates from the Cape Coral and Orlando
Centers visited Marriott's Springwood Court Nursing Home to convey Master's
love. Orchids and little white stuffed bears with the message "God
Loves You" on their T-shirts were distributed to each of the 98
residents. Toothbrushes and combs were also given to the staff for later
distribution.
Ten
minutes into the visit, a staff member came up to us and said that
she had never seen so many smiles on the faces of the patients.
They were overwhelmed by the love and sincerity of our practitioners-especially
the children. Because many of the residents spend most of their
time in their rooms, permission was granted to go door to door and
personally deliver the message of love. Their curiosity about Master
was satisfied when all their questions were answered. A sample booklet
and News magazine are now part of the facility's permanent library.
One
of the residents was especially moved by Master's love, and began
hugging fellow initiates as they were leaving the nursing home.
The woman asked for her own copy of Master's sample booklet, and
upon receiving it, pressed it to her heart and knew that she had
found something very special. Ten days after the visit, a report
came to us from the nursing home, stating that the residents were
still excited about the Sunday afternoon that had brought sunshine
into their lives. The orchids continued to bloom and many of the
bears had been tied to walkers and wheelchairs, creating what they
called a "Bear Brigade" down the halls of the nursing
home. The activities director was thrilled to have had a visit of
this nature during a time when no other holidays were near, and
the gifts were especially appreciated.
Through
this event, not only was Master's love spread to the elderly, but
Florida initiates experienced what it was like to give with no attachment
to results of any kind. Only unconditional love was present. When
we touch one heart, we really do touch the world!
