On February 18, 2003, a devastating fire took place
in a subway in Daegu, South Korea, causing over 200 deaths, along with
many injuries and missing persons cases. The disaster occurred in the
morning when students were being transported to school and office women
were going to work so many women and children were among the victims.
A number of firefighters were also lost in the blaze. The disaster was
so great that the city has still not yet fully recovered, and so the
Korean people continue to donate money to help in the relief efforts.

Thus, following Master’s compassionate example, the
centers in South Korea collected relief funds for a period of one month
to assist the victims. In March 30, 2003, Korean initiates contributed
3,108,070 Won (approx. USD 2600) to the victims via the Joong Ang Ilbo,
a major local newspaper.
