Haight
Street Art Fair--
Rekindling the Summer of Love
[San
Francisco] Haight-Ashbury is one of California's most
famous neighborhoods. In the 1960s the area served as the cultural center
of a strong movement to promote higher human consciousness, peace, equality
for women and racial minorities, and the rights of other life forms
such as plants, trees and animals. Each year, the city of San Francisco
hosts the Haight Street Fair in Haight-Ashbury to celebrate and remember
this golden period in San Francisco's history.
The
Haight Street Fair, with its rich history and large throngs of open-minded
people, provided San Francisco initiates with a great opportunity to
give back to the community, spread Master's teachings, and announce
the news of Master's June 23 lecture in Fresno, California.
On
the day of the Fair, Master's books, videotapes, and new DVDs were set
out for display, as Her chanting filled the booth and its surroundings
with serenity and love. During this time, a steady stream of people
stopped by the booth, some of whom were spiritually inclined and wanted
to learn about Master. Truth seekers who tuned in to Master's local
radio and TV programs also stopped by the booth.
In
an event where the main theme was not spirituality, it was refreshing
to see that so many people were interested in learning about Master,
meditation, and spirituality in general. In the past, local initiates
mainly spread Master's teachings at events where the main purpose was
to promote spirituality, such as the Whole-Life-Expo. This event was
different, but was still a very good experience for fellow initiates.
Participating in the Haight Street Art Fair reminded San Francisco initiates
that Master's teachings can be promoted at broader levels and in venues
different than spiritual expos.
