Assisting Flood-Affected Families
By Pakistan Relief Team (Originally
in Urdu and English)
In September 2012, Pakistan was struck by monsoon floods
that produced extensive food shortages and hunger and caused more
than 400 people to lose their lives. According to the National Disaster
Management Authority (NDMA), the most severely hit region was Sindh
Province, where 2.8 million residents were affected. 2012 was the
third consecutive year in which Pakistan suffered devastating monsoonal
flooding.
Deeply concerned about the welfare of the Pakistani people, Supreme
Master Ching Hai quickly provided a US$15,000 fund to assist a team
of Association members from Karachi and Islamabad in carrying out
relief operations. After learning that the citizens of Sindh Province
were still awaiting aid due to flood waters that had not yet receded,
the team prepared 1,180 bags, each containing enough rice to sustain
seven people for a week, and delivered the supplies to residents of
Kashmore District from October 2 to 6. A total of 1,030 families received
aid. May the Pakistani people soon recover from the aftermath of the
floods and quickly rebuild their lives.
